A White Carnation | This self portrait was not created with this poem in mind but as I pondered on which photo to pair this with, I kept coming back to this. It's a portrait that can mean many things, and to me represents a solemn yet loving goodbye. A parting gift of sorts. A white carnation for purity and love, my back turned for anonymity, and the light for focus and clarity. Enjoy. :)
Old souls
I lay here, eyes closed.
My restless mind keeps me from sleep.
My body aches with fatigue but alas,
here I am, a stranger to repose.
The sweetest thoughts flow in,
Of an affair unlike any other,
and similar to tonight, only
in the complete lack of somatic rest.
But times like these cause me
to think.
And I do think.
Too much at times.
But perhaps a soul needs rest even more than a body.
Perhaps... All it needs is a restless night.
In a world full of vacant hearts, devoid of care,
we need an intertwining of old souls.
Nothing exists outside of this encounter
The world is empty. We are alone.
How beautiful it is to fall in love for a time.
A fleeting moment.
How strange it is, this coalescing of souls.
Is it fate or manifestation?
Coincidence or design?
I doubt we'll ever know.
But to feel the joy of love for a night
Is an experience that cannot be surpassed.
Flat or round, the earth approves.
As a soul meets a soul, and they become one - body and mind.
The fate of these remains hidden.
The truth lies in the mysteries of the world.
-An unsolvable puzzle of sorts,-
For who am I to say what should be
When forces greater than I intervene.
And perhaps the beauty of the night
is best left alone, untainted by expectation or reality.
Shall we become just a memory?
Maybe it should be so. Time will tell us all.
Until then, whatever that may mean,
Your music will be revered,
Your memory will be cherished,
And your heart will be remembered.
So long, my love.
So long.
